Sagebrush Bird Conservation Network

Project Name: Use of Stable Isotopes Ratios to Link Wintering and Breeding Ranges of Shrubsteppe Birds

Objectives:

  1. To link wintering and breeding areas used by shrubsteppe birds.
  2. To relate wintering strategies of shrubsteppe birds to habitat use and population dynamics of shrubsteppe birds

Location: Winter: Southwestern United States; Summer: Northern intermountain west

Project duration: Pilot study completed in Jan-Mar 2003. Currently developing proposal for full project funding

Bird sampling methods: Birds captured in mist-nets are banded and feathers collected for isotope analysis on winter and summer range. Interested in developing contacts to collect additional samples.

Vegetation sampling: Multi-scale measures of wintering habitat currently being developed
